Before Losing My Vision
I was introduced to EFT after surviving a violent and life-threatening incident, which resulted in debilitating PTSD.
After working with a certified practitioner on a weekly basis for multiple months, the impact of the PTSD began to lessen.
Through this process, I experienced EFT as a gentle technique that acknowledged my experience while reducing my fear, panic, and anxiety.
My First Cornea Transplant
Only a couple of years later, I lost all of my vision over a period of two days. At the time, I was working for myself as an architect and artist while living in South America. During this experience, my cornea melted so quickly that I had to be emergently evacuated back to my home country, where I would be eligible to receive a cornea transplant.
Day 0
My eye was healthy.
Day 2
I lost all my vision.
Day 6
I had my 1st surgery
to save my eye.
Day 48
I received my 1st
cornea transplant.
Day 350
My eye was stable.
My Experience during the First Transplant
I was incoherent because of the pain, and everything happened so quickly that it felt like a blur. My heart was constantly racing, and I was terrified. All of the resources I had available to me were not able to bring down the fear or anxiety.
Even with EFT, when someone is experiencing a medical emergency, it is necessary to work with medical professionals. In my experience, working with my surgeon not only saved my eye but also prevented the infection from spreading to my brain.
My Feelings …
Fearful
Anxious
Panicked
Helpless
Overwhelmed
Out of Control
My Second Cornea Transplant
Following the first transplant, it took almost a year to stabilize my eye, and only two months later, my transplant failed.
I lived without vision in my eye for a year and a half while receiving treatment to reduce the inflammation so that I could be eligible for a second transplant.
Day 402
My transplant failed,
and I lost my vision again.
Day 704
I was given a denial to
receive a second
cornea transplant.
Day 779
A procedure was
attempted to restore my
vision and it failed.
Day 880
I received my 2nd cornea
transplant, and a majority
of my vision was restored.
Day 1000
My eye was stable.
My Experience during
the Second Transplant
I was calm and centered. At no point during the day of surgery did I feel any anxiety or fear. I was able to be present and engaged with each of the medical personnel who prepared me for the transplant.
Although I had many more resources available to me, I did not need to utilize any of them once I arrived at the hospital. I was able to clear the anxiety and fear from my first transplant, allowing the second transplant to feel like a completely different experience.
My Feelings …
Serene
Confident
Optimistic
Powerful
Couragous
In Control
The Resources That Changed My Experience
EFT
In the time leading up to my second transplant, I continued to work with a certified EFT practitioner on a weekly basis.
We addressed traumas I experienced earlier in my life, the loss of my vision, and the rejection of my first transplant.
I also used EFT on my own to clear all of the distress I felt when looking at each of the images of my eye.
I am now able to look at all of the photos of my eye without any rise in emotional intensity.
Tarot
I started working with my first Tarot deck one month after undergoing a procedure that failed to restore my vision.
7 days after pulling my first card, I was approved to schedule a second cornea transplant.
2 months later, I experienced a successful transplant.
During this time, I used the Tarot daily to gain insight into the process and the actions I could take to put myself in the best position to experience a successful transplant.
